“A new look for Catholic churches, in which the priest faces the congregation from the back of the altar, is typified by newly changed sanctuary at St. Augustine Catholic church, 7801 the Paseo. The Rev. Joseph C. Leonard, an assistant pastor, is pictured.
“The altar was moved from the original position directly below the crucifix at rear. Benches now below the crucifix formerly were at the side of the altar. Physical changes, as well as the new use of the English language in mass, will go into official use. Other church sacraments and services will be performed from the traditional position in front of the altar.”
