In this ad that appeared in The Kansas City Star on Feb. 16, 1960, a series titled “This Is Your Star” told readers, “There is news in the ads, too.”
“In her living room easy chair, a Kansas City housewife scans advertisements of sales in the Star, planning her shopping trip,” reads the copy.
“Who is having a white goods sale? Where can you buy a battery for your car? Which grocer is offering your favorite brand of coffee at a saving? Who can carpet your floor, fence your back yard? Just shop the ads!”
Today, ads remain a big reason that readers want The Star in print.
