An unnamed main thoroughfare is the site of today’s Kansas City International Airport, which opened in 1972. In the planning stages it was called Mid Continent International Airport, hence the MCI designator code.
The original caption noted that strip zoning in the area “is one of many problems that face Kansas City and Platte County planning officials in preparing for city and county growth.”
