Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has endorsed Sherwood Smith in the Democratic primary for the 1st district at large seat on the Jackson County legislature.

Smith’s opponent is former Royals infielder Frank White.

“As a Fire Fighter Captain, Sherwood knows what it takes to keep our neighborhoods safe by working to prevent the root causes of crime and stopping crimes before they are committed,” Koster’s statement says.

The endorsement by Koster — a candidate for governor in 2016 — reflects the perceived importance of organized labor in the state.
