Kansas City police release name of man killed Thursday on Highland Avenue
Kansas City police have released the name of a man shot and killed Thursday evening in the 6000 block of Highland Avenue.
Officers called to the neighborhood shortly before 8 p.m. found Cary Smith, 47, lying in the street, suffering from gunshot wounds. Smith died at the scene.
It was unclear what led up to the shooting, said Capt. Stacey Graves, a police spokeswoman.
Investigators were looking for a suspect described as a man driving a black Pontiac with a temporary tag.
Police asked anyone with information about the homicide to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
The killing on Highland Avenue was the 60th homicide in Kansas City this year, and the metropolitan area has recorded 95 homicides in 2016.
The investigation continued.
