An 18-year-old driver whose car smashed into a Kansas City streetcar in May has pleaded guilty to a traffic violation, according to court records.
Dylan M. Cline, of Shawnee, pleaded guilty Thursday to a defective equipment violation in Kansas City Municipal Court. The charge had been reduced from the original citation of failing to stop for a red light. Cline was assessed a $298.50 fine.
After the May 26 wreck, police said it appeared Cline ran a red light when his Nissan Altima broadsided the streetcar at the Truman Road and Main Street intersection.
At the time, Cline said he thought he had a green light. Investigators said video from the streetcar showed otherwise.

The impact sent small amounts of debris flying. One of the streetcar’s doors was partly caved in, and the vehicle was taken out of service temporarily for repairs.
There were 10 passengers inside the streetcar. The Nissan, which had heavy front-end damage, had five passengers.
No injuries were reported.
