A Lenexa man pleaded guilty Monday to impersonating a federal employee after he sent letters using Internal Revenue Service letterhead.
Jeffrey Nickerson, 56, mailed the letters to former girlfriends and business partners, according to federal prosecutors.
The recipients of the letters were told that they were under investigation for income tax evasion, according to prosecutors.
Nickerson faces a sentence of up to three years in prison. He will be sentenced later in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan.
