The Kansas City, Kan., Fraternal Order of Police lodge building was vandalized over the weekend.
Someone who lives in the area of the lodge near 78th Street and Leavenworth Road called police just before 6 p.m. Sunday when they saw someone spray-painting the building.
The vandal then left the area in a car occupied by several other people.
The spray-painting included an obscene reference to pigs and gang-type symbols.
The paint was barely dry Sunday night when a number of citizens showed up to help clean it up, said police spokesman Cameron Morgan.
One man who lived nearby, a prison parolee, used his own money to buy some chemicals to clean the building, Morgan said.
