A 62-year-old Kansas City man pleaded guilty Wednesday to robbing a Ward Parkway bank last November.
After robbing the Bank Midwest at 7904 Ward Parkway, Sidney Allen Williams was chased and tackled by a bank security guard.
He wore a mask and gloves and was armed with a handgun during the robbery, according to court documents.
After the robbery, the security guard chased Williams and caught him across the street from the bank. During a struggle, he pointed the gun at the guard, who was able to disarm him.
A passer-by who saw the struggle joined in to help the guard until police arrived.
When FBI agents later questioned Williams, he told them the gun was not loaded and he just wanted to go back to prison. He has previous convictions for bank robbery, assault, burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to court documents.
Attorneys will recommend a 15-year prison sentence as part of a plea agreement. A sentencing date has not been set.
