The man accused of killing Kansas City, Kan., Police Detective Brad Lancaster last month was released from the hospital Monday.
Police escorted Ayers, 29, from the hospital Monday afternoon wearing Lancaster’s handcuffs.
Never miss a local story.
Authorities said Monday afternoon they do not know when he will be taken to court or whether he will waive extradition to Kansas.
Lancaster was shot after officers were called to the area of the speedway on a report of a suspicious person.
After the detective was shot, Ayers allegedly drove off in his police car. A short time later, Ayers allegedly carjacked a woman and took off in her vehicle with two small children still inside.
Authorities said Ayers then drove that vehicle to Basehor in Leavenworth County where he parked inside an open garage. He then is accused of robbing a man there and taking his car.
Later that afternoon, Kansas City police spotted that car on Bruce R. Watkins Drive and began a pursuit that ended when the car crashed at Bannister Road.
There, Ayers allegedly shot a woman in the shoulder while attempting to steal her vehicle. A Kansas City officer shot Ayers.
