The FBI has launched a nationwide effort to find a serial killer and rapist who terrorized California in the 1970s and 1980s.
Known as the East Area Rapist, the man is believed to be responsible for 12 homicides and 45 rapes between 1976 and 1986.
A detailed description of the man and his crimes is on the FBI website.
A reward of $50,000 is offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
Officials say the man, if still alive, is in his 60s or 70s. The crimes began in the Sacramento area but later occurred in other parts of California.
