A 20-year-old Kansas City man is facing charges in the Sunday shooting death of a man outside a home in the 6600 block of Park Avenue.
Jackson County prosecutors have charged Cardell Scott with second-degree murder, endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of armed criminal action in the death of 21-year-old Thomas M. Fayne of Kansas City.
Fayne was found shot in the driver’s seat of a vehicle about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. A woman and a 2-year-old boy were also in the vehicle, but they were not injured.
Fayne was rushed to a hospital, where he died. Police released Fayne’s name Wednesday.
According to court records, the woman in the vehicle with Fayne told police that they had just returned from a fast-food restaurant and parked when another vehicle pulled up alongside them. A man got out of that vehicle and fired several shots, hitting Fayne.
The woman identified Scott as the shooter, and another witness told police that Scott had been offended by something Fayne said two weeks earlier.
The slaying is the city’s 46th homicide of the year. So far in 2016, there have been 71 homicides in the Kansas City area.
