The Metropolitan Area Major Case Squad convened Tuesday to investigate the shooting death of a 19-year-old man found wounded in the back seat of a vehicle in Gladstone.

Police found him about 9:45 p.m. Monday while responding to reports of a shooting in the 6900 block of North Bales Avenue. He died at a hospital.

Authorities did not released his name or details on what led to the shooting.

No arrests have been made, said Capt. Jeff Self, Metro Squad spokesman. Police were looking for two men seen running east from the area, Self said.

“We are still trying to put together why they were in the parking lot, but it is too early to speculate,” he said.

Gladstone police asked for assistance from the Kansas City Police Department’s helicopter unit to search the area. The department’s crime scene unit responded to assist in collecting evidence.

A police dog from the Clay County’s Sheriff’s Department also helped search.

Anyone with information regarding the fatal shooting is asked to call the Gladstone Department of Public Safety at 816-436-3550 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
