Jackson County prosecutors on Monday charged a Kansas City man in the shooting death last month of a woman who had obtained a protection order against him.
Freddie D. Price is charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with first-degree murder in the June 4 killing of Shaunda Thomas, whose body was found on a playground outside an East Side apartment complex.
Price, 32, also is charged with armed criminal action and violation of a protection order.
According to court documents, Thomas, 35, had obtained an order of protection order against Price on May 23 and a court hearing was scheduled for the day she was found dead outside the Maple Hill apartments in the 7000 block of Crabapple Lane.

Surveillance video obtained by police showed Thomas and a man leaving her vehicle about 3 a.m. June 4. The man grabbed her from behind and walked her toward the playground, according to court documents.
A short time later, he was seen walking back to the vehicle and driving off.
Numerous shell casings and a handgun were later recovered from the area.
Thomas had sought the protection order after she reported that Price had hit her with a “spiked bat” and punctured the tires on her vehicle, according to the court documents.
Price had been in custody since about two weeks after the killing on a drug charge, according to Jackson County court records.
His bond in the murder case was set at $300,000 cash.
