A Kansas City man faces murder and 14 other felony charges in connection with a shooting Monday that killed one person, wounded another and left bullet holes in nearby vehicles and houses.
Vincent Jackson, 25, was arrested and accused of killing 17-year-old Gabriel Avila outside a home near 10th Street and Monroe Avenue, according to court documents.
Jackson County prosecutors accused Jackson of forcing his way into the home occupied by one adult and seven children aged six to 15. Jackson, allegedly accompanied by a group of men and carrying an AK-47, is accused of beating some of the children, firing shots inside the home, and shooting up vehicles and houses outside.
Avila died from gunfire while sitting in a vehicle outside the home. The driver of a passing vehicle suffered a gunshot wound in the foot.
Jackson was arrested Wednesday and has been charged with second-degree murder, robbery, burglary, shooting into a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and seven counts of armed criminal action.
Jackson was in custody at the Jackson County jail, according to court documents. Prosecutors requested that bond be set at $1 million cash.
