Lee’s Summit burglary leads to gunshot wound

Police said the 4 a. m. incident Sunday involved three suspects, who fled the scene after a scuffle in which the homeowner was shot in the leg.

A home burglary early Sunday left a Lee’s Summit resident with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

The incident in the 5600 block of N.E. Oaks Ridge Lane began as a burglary in which a noise awoke the homeowner. Lee’s Summit police responded at 4 a. m.

They said three suspects had entered the home through the back door.

The homeowner had confronted the suspects and they fought. In the melee, one shot was fired. It hit the victim in the leg, and the suspects fled.

Police said the injury was minor and the victim and witnesses were being interviewed.
