A man and woman from Kansas City, Kan., were charged Tuesday with the robbery of an Excelsior Springs bank last week.
Virginia Lynn Spencer, 28, and Steven Dale Robinson, 22, are accused of holding up a Bank Midwest branch on Jesse James Road last Friday. They were arrested after the car they were in crashed in Liberty while being pursued by Clay County sheriff’s deputies.
A third person in the vehicle has not been charged.
According to court documents, Spencer jumped over the counter and took money from teller drawers while the man who has not been charged held a handgun. On the way out of the bank, Spencer allegedly yelled, “Have a nice day.”
A bank customer who saw them run out to a getaway vehicle gave police a description of the car, which the deputies soon spotted. Robinson allegedly served as the getaway driver. Authorities recovered a bag containing a large amount of cash from the wrecked car, according to court documents.
