Jackson County prosecutors have filed five felony sex charges, including sodomy, against a 28-year-old man accused of molesting two young children he knew.

Prosecutors allege that Edward Ellis III of Kansas City abused the children, a 5-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl, between 2010 and 2012.

Police arrested Ellis on Thursday. He remained in jail Friday in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

The victims’ grandmother discovered and reported the allegations in April 2012. She heard the girl crying in a room as if the girl desperately was “trying to get away from something,” according to court records. The grandmother walked into the room and saw Ellis with his face in the girl’s private area. the records said. The boy also was in the room crying.

The boy later told specially trained social workers that Ellis would sneak into his room and hurt his privates, court records said.

The Missouri Children’s Division took custody of the children and a 1-year-old baby at the home the day the allegations were reported. The victims’ mother told detectives she didn’t call police about Ellis because she didn’t want him to go to jail, according to court records. She also told the victims’ grandmother that “it was none of her business,” according to the records released Friday.
