A man who died Thursday night after struggling with Kansas City, Kan., police was identified Friday as Craig Mckinnis, 44, of Kansas City, Kan.

Police pulled him over for a traffic violation just after 6 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Stewart Avenue. After officers determined he was wanted on criminal charges, he tried to flee and resisted arrest, police said.

After what police described as a brief struggle, officers noticed that Mckinnis needed medical help. They began first aid and called an ambulance. Mckinnis was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Authorities have not released a cause of death. Police said the incident is still under investigation.
