A Shawnee man was sentenced Thursday to more than 13 years in prison for the 2014 child abuse death of a 3-year-old Merriam girl.
Kham Khamchanh, 40, pleaded guilty in August to a charge of intentional second-degree murder in the January 2014 death of Yamarawit “Yami” Sahle.
Yami was the daughter of Khamchanh’s then-girlfriend.
He admitted that he became angry and threw the little girl to the floor five to 10 times. He also admitted that he punched and slapped her several times on previous occasions.
As part of the plea agreement in Johnson County District Court, Khamchanh was sentenced to the maximum of 13 years and nine months called for in state guidelines.
