A standoff between police and a man involved in a domestic dispute led to the evacuation of several homes in Kansas City Monday evening after officers detected the smell of natural gas.
A press release from the Kansas City Police Department said officers were called to the 100 block of Kensington Drive about 5:30 p.m. and were told by a woman that her husband had threatened her with a gun and locked himself in their home with a child.
Police surrounded the house and the man eventually surrendered to police and the child was returned to the woman.
But they smelled natural gas and evacuated nearby homes. The evacuation ended about 9:30 p.m.
