Jody Ledkins was last seen walking down a Kansas City street.
And then she was gone.
Thirty years later, the mystery of what happened to the 14-year-old girl remains unsolved.
It was May 23, 1985, when Karen Stratton last talked to her daughter.
Jody called her mother to say she was heading home from a friend’s house.
She was last seen walking north on Winchester Avenue from 14th Street. She possibly could have been heading to another friend’s house in the 700 block of Cambridge Avenue, but she never arrived there or home.
Kansas City police said Friday that they suspect foul play in her disappearance, and detectives have continued to work the case.
At the time she disappeared, Jody was 5 feet 1 inch tall and weighed 90 pounds. She had blond hair and blue eyes. She wore glasses and had a small mole under her chin, a large birthmark under her arm, an appendectomy scar and “perfect” teeth.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children prepared age-enhanced photographs of what Jody might look like in more recent years.
