Criminal charges have been filed against a man who was videotaped Sunday as he ran from officers through Roe Park in Overland Park.
James Anthony Booker Jr. is charged in both Jackson and Johnson counties as a result of the incident that began in Kansas City and ended with his arrest in Overland Park.
Booker, 32, is in custody in Johnson County where he is charged with possession of cocaine and Xanax.
In Jackson County, he was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest.
Kansas City police said the pursuit began about 4:35 p.m. Sunday near 87th Street and Interstate 435 when an SUV driver who was a person of interest in a shooting investigation fled from officers.
A witness told police that an occupant of the vehicle had fired shots at someone in another vehicle that left the scene before police arrived.
Police pursued the SUV on I-435 into Kansas at speeds of more than 100 mph. The driver exited onto Roe Avenue where he got out of the vehicle and fled on foot in the park a few blocks north of the interstate.
He was arrested after his run through the park, which was captured on video by a woman attending a child's birthday party.
The drugs and a handgun were recovered from the vehicle, according to court documents.
