An Olathe police officer suffered a broken leg Monday afternoon after fighting with a man who tried to leave following a disturbance with a woman.
Phillip Moore Jr., 37, of Olathe was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor domestic battery for the incident that occurred about 5 p.m. in Mill Creek Park in the 300 block of East Poplar Street. A caller told police that Moore and a woman were arguing near a pool.
Moore tried to leave when officers arrived but struggled briefly. He was taken into custody shortly afterward. The 31-year-old officer involved in the arrest was later given a medical exam and learned he had broken his leg during the altercation. The officer has worked for the Olathe department for just over two years.
The incident remains under investigation. Moore suspect was booked into the Johnson County Jail, where he is expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday.
