Police are investigating a homicide after two people were attacked, and one of them was killed, Tuesday morning outside an Independence home.
Police were called about 5:30 a.m. to the 800 block of South Huttig Avenue for a reported aggravated assault, according to Officer John Syme, a spokesman for the Independence Police Department.
Arriving officers found a man critically injured outside a home. The man was taken to a hospital and later was pronounced dead.
A second victim, a woman, also was taken to a hospital. She was later released.
The case is being investigated as a homicide. Police said the name of the man will not be released until family has been notified.
Detectives have not made the cause of death public. Police said the cause of death will be investigated by the Jackson County Medical Examiner.
Police said the case is being “actively investigated” by detectives and asked the public for help.
