A girl who was shot at a Kansas City playground Sunday was hospitalized in critical but stable condition Monday, police said.
Authorities did not release any other information, but relatives and friends of the shooting victim said Sunday she is an 8-year-old girl who was shot in the head. They think she was giving away chewing gum before the shooting about 7 p.m. at 20th and Tower Park Road.
Police said they detained another juvenile for questioning as a “subject of interest.”
Neighbors were reluctant to talk about the shooting Monday. One cited a fear of retaliation. A small collection of stuffed animals and flowers was placed at a corner of the playground.
After receiving a call, police found the victim on the playground Sunday with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital with a life-threatening wound.
