A deadly shooting has closed the southbound lanes of Bruce R. Watkins Drive from 63rd to 85th streets.
The shooting was reported about 3:10 p.m. Thursday on Bruce R. Watkins Drive near 75th Street, although police said they were unsure of where exactly the victim was shot.
Witnesses told police that they observed the victim’s vehicle driving southbound. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier on the right shoulder, then bounced off the barrier, crossed lanes of traffic, and hit the steel wires on the left shoulder, where it came to rest.
Police initially thought they where investigating an accident but discovered an unresponsive man in the driver’s seat. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. He appeared to have been shot, police said

Police Chief Darryl Forté tweeted that the victim’s vehicle had numerous bullet holes in it.
Police diverted traffic near the area after the shooting.
