A woman was killed and a man injured in a shooting at a home Monday morning in Harrisonville.
The victims were shot by a suspect in the 1000 block of North Independence Street, according to Lt. Chris Osterberg with Harrisonville police. The suspect was taken into custody about 7:30 a.m. Monday, 10 minutes after an off-duty officer driving through the area came upon the scene.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide.
The relationship of the two victims has not been released, and the relationship of the victims and shooter is still unclear, Osterberg said.
The man who was injured in the shooting is in stable condition. He lived in the home with the woman who died.
The off-duty officer pulled over and made contact with the male gunshot victim. Other officers responded to assist on the scene, at which point the woman’s body was discovered.
“I believe we’ll be able to get charges presented today,” Osterberg said.
Once charges are presented and next of kin have been notified, Osterberg added, more information about the parties involved will be released.
Several roads in the area were closed as a result of the investigation.
