A Kansas City man was charged Saturday after he allegedly fled from Independence police and crashed through a cafe on U.S. 24.
Mikilos Guinn, 40, was charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with two felonies — resisting a lawful stop and first-degree property damage — as well as third-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors.
According to court records, Guinn clipped an Independence police officer while trying to flee after a traffic stop about 1:10 a.m. Saturday.
During pursuit, court records say, Guinn allegedly drove more than 100 mph and ignored traffic signals and signs before eventually leaving the road and crashing into and through Grampa’s Cafe, 9517 E. U.S. 24.
The cafe’s owners estimated damage at up to $200,000.
Prosecutors requested a $75,000 bond.
