Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found Tuesday morning lying on a south Kansas City road as a homicide.
Police received a call about 6:30 a.m. on reports of a body of a 20-year-old man lying in the road near 136th Street and Holmes Road. Initially, it was thought to have been a pedestrian who had been struck by a car.
The man, whose name has not been released, suffered several injuries.
But when officers arrived, they determined that it did not appear the man had been struck. Kansas City Police Department crime scene investigators and homicide detectives were called to the scene to examine the body and determine how the man died, according to Officer Darin Snapp, a spokesman for Kansas City police.
“It could appear that it was a traffic accident or something else,” Snapp said.
Members of the Jackson County medical examiner’s office also responded to the scene.
The area sees a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the morning, Snapp said.
Police were looking for witnesses who might have seen what happened as well as anyone who may have known the man, whose name was not released.
Anyone with information about the death is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
