Schlitterbahn postpones the opening of the Verrückt waterslide to June 29

The Kansas City, Kan., water park announced that the ride is now slated to open June 29. According to a news release, Verrückt “is now functional and a few operational tweaks are ongoing.” Guinness World Records has called it the world’s tallest waterslide at 168 feet 8 inches.

Once again, the debut of Schlitterbahn’s high-profile new attraction, the Verrückt water slide, has been delayed.

The Kansas City, Kan., water park announced Friday that the ride is now slated to open June 29.

Originally scheduled to open May 23, the Verrückt’s opening has been postponed twice. The first postponement was earlier this month, when Schlitterbahn indicated that the opening date for the ride — which has generated significant buzz since Guinness World Records in April called it the world’s tallest waterslide at 168 feet 7 inches — would be moved to June 5 to allow for more testing.

According to Friday’s release, Verrückt “is now functional and a few operational tweaks are ongoing.” The park also said the opening would coincide with a one-hour Travel Channel special.

The Verrückt — the name translates to “crazy” in German — is one of two highly anticipated Kansas City attractions whose openings have been postponed.

The debut of the SteelHawk, a Worlds of Fun ride that spins riders from a 301-foot tower, was postponed earlier this month as the ride undergoes the commissioning process.

A Worlds of Fun spokeswoman said Friday that the park will probably know by Monday when the attraction will be open to the public.
