The KCSG Academy 00 boys U18 is now a two-time national champion after winning its age group for the second consecutive season in the U.S. Youth Futsal National Championships.
The team of Lee’s Summit area soccer players won its second title with a 5-4 victory against Aurora Chivas from Illinois in the final of the three-day tournament Feb. 19 at the New Century Fieldhouse outside Olathe, Kan.
After splitting its pool-play games, KCSG Academy advanced to the final with a 6-5 victory versus JOTP Tunga from St. Paul, Minn., in the semifinals.
KCSG Academy also took first place in the Heartland Futsal league this winter and won its regional tournament in January to advance to nationals.
Now in its 11th year, the U.S. Youth Futsal National Championships is largest national youth futsal tournament in the United States. This year’s tournament featured 118 teams competing in 19 girls’ and boys’ age groups in three venues across Johnson County, Kan.
The tournament is organized by U.S. Youth Futsal, which oversees more than 100 leagues with 50,000 players in 30 states.
The organization is dedicated to the growth and development of futsal, a scaled-down version of soccer played on a hard-surfaced, basketball-sized court with a smaller, low-bounce ball.
