Spring is bringing a crop of orange traffic cones to Lee’s Summit.
Drivers can expect to encounter lane closures as the Missouri Department of Transportation works on U.S. 50 and area bridges.
The Colbern Road Bridge over Missouri 50 closes May 31 and Missouri 350 will close for the bridge demolition the weekend of June 3.
The department already is replacing bridge decks for the overpass of Raytown Road and Interstate 470 east of Lee’s Summit and the Colbern Road Bridge where I-470 and Missouri 291 northbound join.
Temporary road closures for the Colbern Road intersection took place during nights this week.
Ongoing work on Colbern Road at the intersection of Interstate 470 and Missouri 291 is expected to continue on the northern lane of Colbern Road between Northeast Rice Road and Northeast Town Centre Drive until about the middle of August.
The construction project limits left turns from eastbound Colbern to I-470, or left turns to southbound Missouri 291, or westbound Colbern onto Independence Avenue. Vehicles headed eastbound can go south on Missouri 291 to Mulberry Street and make a U-turn to reach I-470. Another option is to go straight to Todd George Parkway and turn left, then go north to Strother Road to use that interchange.
Some other projects to be aware of this summer:
• The new interchange at U.S. 50 and Missouri 291 South is getting started, although much of the initial work is going to be alongside the highway.
• Lee’s Summit will be adding shoulders to Todd George Parkway between Woods Chapel to Colbern Road, with the 90-day project beginning as early as mid-June. Northbound lanes will close and be detoured, then work begins on southbound lanes and traffic will be detoured.
• There will be some finishing of work on the new Blackwell Road Interchange.
