Lee’s Summit West High School captured two grand awards at the state Technology Education Association of Missouri (TEAM) contest held May 8-9 in Osage Beach, Mo.
Those awards went to Trevor Grooms for his kitchen hutch and Daniel Schnelle for his rocking chair. Sam Breshears, Matt Borgmeyer and Mick Bryant of Lee’s Summit West all received first place awards in their category at state.
Students qualified for state by winning grand awards at an earlier Kansas City area competition.
About 50 students from Lee’s Summit High School qualified for the metro-area contest, more than any other high school in the metropolitan area. Lee’s Summit High School wood shop teacher Tony Mixon also won Program of the Year for Missouri.
Two students tied for best of show at the metro contest -- Caylee Smith of Lee’s Summit High for her harp, and Logan Dahmer for his grandfather clock. Dahmer is a Lee’s Summit West student who takes furniture making at Lee’s Summit High.
