JCCC Foundation honor

Gary Morsch, the founder and president of Heart to Heart International, has been named the Johnson Countian of the Year for 2014 by the Johnson County Community College Foundation. Morsch will be honored at the foundation’s 28th annual “Some Enchanted Evening” gala on Nov. 8 at the Overland Park Marriott Hotel.

Heart to Heart is a nonprofit humanitarian medical aid, training, and disaster relief organization. Since Morsch started the organization in 1992, it has delivered medical aid and supplies valued at more than $1 billion to more than 150 countries.

Morsch, of Olathe, practices family and emergency medicine through Docs Who Care, a medical staffing company he launched in 1993 to serve rural clinics and hospitals throughout the Midwest.

Record e-filers

The Internal Revenue Service said 95 percent of Kansas and Missouri taxpayers have filed their tax returns electronically. Through March 7, 589,000 federal returns from Kansas taxpayers have been e-filed, while 1.25 million e-filers have been processed in Missouri. That’s up 7 percent in Kansas and 10 percent in Missouri from the same period last year, the IRS said.
