Law firm opens in Olathe; Mainstreet Credit Union gives to Shawnee Mission schools

The law firm of Kennedy Berkley Yarnevich Williamson, which has offices in Salina and Hays, Kan., has opened an office in Olathe.
The new office at 15664 W. 135th St., will be led by corporate attorney John F. Thompson II, who said the firm already worked with several individual, corporate and financial services clients in the Kansas City area.Meritage changes
Joanne Schafer has been promoted to the operations team at Meritage Portfolio Management in Overland Park. Her receptionist duties are being filled by Lisa Norris, a recent graduate of Pittsburg State University.Credit union gift
Mainstreet Credit Union has endowed the Jack Chalender Legacy Fund with a $50,000 gift to the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation. The fund will award annual educator grants with a particular focus on middle school projects.
Chalender worked for more than 40 years in education, mostly in the Shawnee Mission School District. He retired as an associate superintendent in 1983. He also served on the board of directors for 37 years at Mainstreet Credit Union, formerly the Credit Union of Johnson County. He was chairman for 30 years.Olathe bonds
Moody’s Investor Services has assigned an Aa1 rating to $27.6 million in general obligation bonds for the city of Olathe.The rating in part reflects Olathe’s large tax base, well-managed financial operations and above average, but affordable debt levels.
