Sprouts Farmers Market wants to open in Overland Park’s Nall Hills shopping center.
The specialty grocery store chain has submitted plans for a 30,000-square-foot store in the center at 95th Street and Nall Avenue. Sprouts officials couldn’t be reached for comment.
Nuts and Bolts is currently operating in the space at 9628 Nall Ave. but is scheduled to close at the end of August.
In a statement, Kent Schaper, store manager for the Nuts and Bolts store, said: “The chain will close the Nall location to seek a more favorable arrangement nearby......Nall was the first store location we opened in 2008, so naturally we are sad to move from our first home. When you get to know the community and serve the people on a regular basis, you get attached.”

When the Nall Hills Nuts and Bolts opened it was designed as a “neighborhood hardware store.” But it also was a whopping 51,000 square feet, more than three times as big as traditional True Value stores.
It’s stocked with as many (or more) power tools, nuts and bolts, and other items as big box hardware stores. The locally owned company now has several locations and plans to open a new store soon in Kearney.
Sprouts also has been expanding in the area with locations in southern Overland Park, Lenexa and the Northland. A new location also opened this month in Lawrence.
▪ Athens, Georgia-based Zaxby’s, is under contract for a site at 9510 W. 135th St., Overland Park. If all goes as planned, it is scheduled to open in spring 2016.
Zaxby’s is known for its chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw and Texas toast. It also has sandwiches, wings and salads, as well as appetizers like fried white cheddar bites, onion rings, tater chips, and spicy fried mushrooms, and a new line of premium milkshakes, including Birthday Cake and Banana Pudding flavors.
Customers will place their orders at the counter and will be called to pick up their prepared-at-order meals when they are ready.
The company has more than 680 locations in 16 states, and more area locations are planned.
▪ Baton Rouge, La.-based Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers wants to enter the market with a new Overland Park restaurant at 135th and Riley streets.
According to the company’s website, Todd Graves founded the chain in 1996 and named it after his beloved yellow Labrador retriever. The company specializes in chicken fingers made from premium chicken that has never been frozen, as well as crinkle-cut fries, coleslaw and Texas toast.
