A year after opening the Frock Boutique in Olathe, the owner has relocated the shop to downtown Overland Park for its lower rent and higher foot traffic.
“It’s such an up-and-coming area. So many people are walking around,” said Lisa Demaree. “It’s great to see an area revitalized. The locals are very friendly and I already have regulars stopping in to see what is new.”
Frock Boutique, at 7915 Santa Fe Drive, sells an “eclectic mix of fashion and accessories, homegoods and trinkets,” Demaree said.
She tries to offer a variety in size, style and price — from $5 Peruvian handmade bracelets to $135 trench coats. Other items include scarves made in India from antique saris, handmade tapestry belts from Peru, jewelry by local Vintage Moon, Liverpool brand denim, wine glasses and gluten-free oatmeal goat’s milk soap.
Demaree said the Downtown Overland Park Partnership does a good job of promoting the area, and shoppers also come for the Farmers Market and the Local Life 3rd Fridays. On Local Life 3rd Fridays, several shops stay open until 8 p.m. or later on the third Friday of the month. The events also include food and drink samples, live music, cooking demonstrations, and giveaways.
Downtown Overland Park also will hold a sidewalk sale on June 20 and 21. The event will include food samples, giveaways and live music.
Friday is national doughnut day and the grand opening day for Lenexa’s new Dunkin' Donuts, 12075 W. 87th St. Parkway, next to Zarda Bar-B-Q. The new location, which has a drive-through that is open around the clock, had a soft opening a week ago.
Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, Lakewood, Colo., plans to open a new Olathe location at 14921 W. 119th St. on Aug. 12. Natural Grocers is a specialty retailer of natural and organic groceries and dietary supplements with nearly 90 stores in 14 states, including locations in Overland Park, Shawnee and Lawrence.
