Construction will officially begin Thursday on the $51 million Embassy Suites & Conference Center in Olathe.
The 10-story, 200-room hotel is being developed by Heart of America Group, based in Moline, Ill. The project will be built on 15 acres at the southeast corner of Ridgeview Road and Kansas 10 in the Corporate Ridge office park.
Grading and other site preparation began about a week ago, and a groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
Exterior construction is scheduled to be completed by October, and the hotel complex is scheduled to open in fall 2015, said Damen Trebilcock, senior vice president with Heart of America Group.
The hotel will include a pool and fitness center, a restaurant and bar and a large commons area. The development also will feature a 25,000-square-foot conference center that can hold about 1,000 people.
Trebilcock said between 100 to 200 employees will be hired. Job applicants should contact Ron Springer, head recruiter at Heart of America, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Olathe City Council has approved a $19.6 million incentive package that includes tax increment financing and community improvement district cap of $14.7 million and a city loan of $4.9 million.
This will be the fourth Heart of America property in Olathe. The company opened a Comfort Suites in 1997 and converted it last year to a Holiday Inn Express & Suites. In 2012, it opened a Hilton Garden Inn and a Johnny’s Italian Steakhouse.
The company, which started in 1978 with a 100-seat restaurant, now has a portfolio of 31 owned and operated retail, office, hotel and restaurant properties in six Midwest states.
