A piece of local history will shine in the national spotlight next week when the National Geographic Channel takes a look at Kansas’ role in the Civil War.

Olathe’s Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Historic Site will appear in an episode of “Diggers” slated for broadcast at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The show’s stars hunted for artifacts on Mahaffie’s grounds with metal detectors for the “Bleeding Kansas” episode. The episode also includes an Underground Railroad site and the Black Jack battlefield in Wellsville.
