A truck became struck trying to squeeze under a low-clearance railroad bridge in Olathe Thursday morning.

The truck became wedged under the bridge over West Spruce Street shortly after 7 a.m., forcing police to close Spruce between North Kansas Avenue and North Walnut Street.

No one was injured. Authorities, however, halted rail traffic so the truck could be removed and the bridge inspected.

It’s common for trucks to get wedged under the bridge as drivers fail to heed the low clearance warning, a dispatcher said.

The route is popular for motorists who want to avoid at-grade railroad crossings at Santa Fe Street in downtown Olathe.
