Patrick Ryan started with the Port Fonda food truck, but then settled down in a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Westport in mid-2012.

The permanent Port Fonda has become so popular, Ryan is planning another brick-and-mortar restaurant.

Ryan’s The Town Co. is scheduled to open in fall 2014 in the new Woodside Village project at 47th Street and Rainbow Boulevard in Westwood. The center also will include a GreenAcres Market.

Ryan is still working on the concept and cuisine and will reveal more closer to the opening of the new Westwood restaurant.

Family dishes up some soul in Olathe

Customers of the new Sweet T’s Soul Food Buffet will find it has a homey feel, mainly because one or more of the Taylor family can be found behind the counter.

Devan and Shawn Taylor had operated a deli on Troost Avenue in the 1990s and they continue to work in the ministry field. In May they opened Sweet T’s in a former Ponderosa Steakhouse at 1109 E. Santa Fe in Olathe. The couple and/or one of their five children can typically be found behind the buffet, dishing up menu items that include fried fish and chicken, brisket, buffalo wings, greens, green beans, mac-and-cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, red beans and rice, corn bread, cake and peach cobbler.

The “Sweet” in the name comes from Shawn’s stint as rapper Lady Sweet while the “T” is for Taylor.

Sweet T’s is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.
