EASTERN KANSAS LEAGUE

1. Gardner Edgerton (7-1, 5-1 EKL)

Last week: Defeated Olathe North 29-26

Gutted out a comeback win against Olathe North to secure a district championship, on to Olathe Northwest.

2. Bishop Miege (7-1, 5-1 EKL)

Last week: Defeated Harmon 74-0

The reigning Class 5A runner-up Stags are on a roll and face rival St. Thomas Aquinas for the district title.

3. Blue Valley Northwest (6-2, 4-2 EKL)

Last week: Defeated Olathe East 31-21

Top-notch win against Olathe East earned a district title for the Huskies, who will try to stay hot against rival BV North.

4. Blue Valley (6-2, 4-2 EKL)

Last week: Defeated Pittsburg 35-14

A district championship and playoff seeding is on the line against rival BV West in the first of possibly two November meetings.

5. Blue Valley West (5-3, 3-3 EKL)

Last week: Defeated BV Southwest 45-14

A district championship and playoff seeding is on the line against rival Blue Valley in the first of possibly two November meetings.

6. Blue Valley Southwest (3-5, 2-5 EKL)

Last week: Lost to BV West 45-14

Playing for pride — for both themselves and the East Kansas League — in the season finale against Pittsburg.

7. St. Thomas Aquinas (3-5, 1-4 EKL)

Last week: Defeated Turner 63-6

The Saints have clinched a playoff spot, so win or lose, the season isn’t finished, but you know coach Mike Thomas’ boys want to beat Miege.

8. Blue Valley North (0-8, 0-6 EKL)

Last week: Lost to SM South 34-7

The Mustangs, who have been eliminated from the playoffs, have one last chance to scratch the win column.

SUNFLOWER LEAGUE

1. Lawrence Free State (7-1, 6-1 SL)

Last week: Defeated Leavenworth 25-23

With the district title and a share of the Sunflower League title secure, the Firebirds can focus on winning the Lawrence title.

2. Shawnee Mission East (7-1, 6-1 SL)

Last week: Defeated SM West 27-0

The Lancers were impressively dominant in dismissing SM West to win a district championship in Dustin Delaney’s first season.

3. Olathe North (5-3, 5-2 SL)

Last week: Lost to Gardner Edgerton 29-26

Tough loss to the Trailblazers, but the Eagles can’t let it linger because their playoff lives are at stake against rival Olathe South.

4. Olathe East (5-3, 4-2 SL)

Last week: Lost to BV Northwest 31-21

The Hawks had been rolling, but now they must regroup quickly to reach the postseason for a 13th consecutive season.

5. Shawnee Mission West (4-4, 4-3 SL)

Last week: Lost to SM East 27-0

The Vikings’ tumultuous season took another dip, but coach Tim Callaghan’s squad can reach the playoffs by defeating SM Northwest.

6. Olathe South (5-3, 4-3 SL)

Last week: Defeated Olathe Northwest 28-7

The Falcons took care of business against Olathe Northwest and can reach the playoffs by defeating Olathe North (and avenging last season’s stunner).

7. Shawnee Mission South (4-4, 3-3 SL)

Last week: Defeated BV North 34-7

The Raiders have a chance to finish the regular season above .500 and reach the playoffs, but Olathe East stands in the way.

8. Lawrence (3-5, 2-5 SL)

Last week: Defeated Wyandotte 81-42

The Chesty Lions aren’t likely to score 81 against rival Lawrence Free State, but an upset could make the season for coach Dirk Wedd’s squad.

9. Olathe Northwest (3-5, 3-4 SL)

Last week: Lost to Olathe South 28-7

Playing for pride against Gardner Edgerton in the finale to coach Chip Sherman’s first season with the Ravens.

10. Leavenworth (3-5, 3-4 SL)

Last week: Lost to Lawrence Free State 25-23

With a convincing win against Wyandotte, the Pioneers can make the playoffs in coach Mark Littrell’s first season.

11. Shawnee Mission Northwest (2-6, 1-6 SL)

Last week: Defeated SM North 56-28

The Cougars can reach the postseason by beating reigning Class 6A champion SM West.

12. Shawnee Mission North (0-8, 0-7 SL)

Last week: Lost to SM Northwest 56-28

Playing for pride against SM East, which provides a tough test in the season finale for the first year of the Don Simmons era.
