EASTERN KANSAS LEAGUE 1. Blue Valley West (2-0, 1-0 EKL)

Last week: defeated St. Thomas Aquinas 24-17

After a heartbreaking loss to St. Thomas Aquinas last fall, Blue Valley West earned payback with a late touchdown.

2. Bishop Miege (2-0, 2-0 EKL)

Last week: defeated Blue Valley 24-15

The Stags are already just one win away from matching last season's total in conference play.

3. Blue Valley (1-1, 1-1 EKL)

Last week: lost to Bishop Miege 24-15

The Tigers fought back late behind a successful running game but couldn't overcome a two-touchdown deficit.

4. Gardner Edgerton (1-1, 1-1 EKL)

Last week: defeated Blue Valley Northwest 49-27

That didn't take long. The Trailblazers are back on track after getting shut out in the season opener.

5. Blue Valley Northwest (1-1, 1-1 EKL)

Last week: lost to Gardner Edgerton 49-27

The Huskies are scoring at a better rate than last season, but they'll need a better defensive effort against Miege on Thursday.

6. St. Thomas Aquinas (0-2, 0-2 EKL)

Last week: lost to Blue Valley West 24-17

A late touchdown from BV West has the defending conference champions in an 0-2 hole.

7. Blue Valley Southwest (2-0, 1-0 EKL)

Last week: defeated Blue Valley North 34-17

Posing as an early candidate for the best surprise of the EKL, BV Southwest will be tested by Gardner Edgerton.

8. Blue Valley North (0-2, 0-2 EKL)

Last week: lost to Blue Valley Southwest 34-17

It doesn't get any easier this week for the Mustangs, who will make a trip Friday to play BV Southwest.

SUNFLOWER LEAGUE 1. Shawnee Mission West (2-0, 2-0 SL)

Last week: defeated Olathe South 23-8

The offense has been sluggish at times, but the Vikings' defense has allowed only 11 points in two weeks.

2. Lawrence Free State (2-0, 2-0 SL)

Last week: defeated Shawnee Mission Northwest 20-3

A second consecutive impressive performance has the Firebirds unbeaten headed into a showdown with Olathe East.

3. Shawnee Mission East (2-0, 2-0 SL)

Last week: defeated Lawrence 26-3

Perhaps better than some predicted, the Lancers have allowed only three points over in two games.

4. Olathe East (1-1, 1-1 SL)

Last week: defeated Olathe Northwest 38-21

After rebounding from a tough opening-night loss, the Hawks will be tested on the road Friday against Lawrence Free State.

5. Shawnee Mission South (1-1, 1-1 SL)

Last week: defeated Olathe North 10-7

The Raiders offense has scored only 13 points in two weeks, but the defense is keeping them in games.

6. Olathe North (1-1, 1-1 SL)

Last week: lost to Shawnee Mission South 10-7

The Eagles define Sunflower League competition best. A three-point loss followed a three-point win.

7. Olathe South (1-1, 1-1 SL)

Last week: lost to Shawnee Mission West 23-8

The Falcons were unable to find a way to move the football against the defending state champion.

8. Lawrence (0-2, 0-2 SL)

Last week: lost to Shawnee Mission East 26-3

A trip to Shawnee Mission West on Thursday puts the Lions in dangerous territory.

9. Olathe Northwest (1-1, 1-1 SL)

Last week: lost to Olathe East 38-21

It wasn't a pretty outing last Friday for the defense, which allowed nearly 700 yards of total offense.

10. Leavenworth (1-1, 1-1 SL)

Last week: defeated Shawnee Mission North 33-0

After being shut out in the opener against SM East, Leavenworth returns the favor against SM North.

11. Shawnee Mission Northwest (0-2, 0-2 SL)

Last week: lost to Lawrence Free State 20-3

The Cougars need to find more consistency within the offense heading into a trip to SM South on Friday.

12. Shawnee Mission North (0-2, 0-2 SL)

Last week: lost to Leavenworth 33-0

Don Simmons’ will try again for his first win as the Indians' coach when they play host to Olathe North on Saturday.
