Olathe East High School junior Allison Stewart was chosen as the Gatorade Kansas softball player of the year for the second straight season after leading the Hawks to a second consecutive Kansas Class 6A state title.

Stewart, a 5-foot-11 pitcher and first baseman who has committed to Arkansas, batted .487 with two home runs and 42 RBIs last spring.

She was even more dominant in the circle, going 13-1 with a 0.39 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings.

During the state semifinals, Stewart, who also boasts a 4.0 grade-point average, struck out 17 Derby Panthers and added a walk-off RBI single in a 2-1, nine-inning victory.

Stewart is the fifth Olathe East softball player to win the award. Trisha Tannahill, Val Chapple, Alex Hupp and Eranne Daugharthy also were chosen as Gatorade Kansas softball players of the year.
