It’s too early in the summer for parents to be stumped and out of ideas. Kids have already parked themselves in front of the television all day. Sound familiar?

KC Running Company and Johnson County Park & Recreation District present a solution: the Air It Up Fun Run.

The new run is a mix between an adventure run and recreational fun for adults, children, runners and walkers, according to Kyle Stegeman, JCPRD special events coordinator.

Air It Up, which debuts Sunday June 23 in Shawnee Mission Park, features two grass courses designed for different age groups. All athletes, though, can expect several inflatable obstacles regardless of which course they choose. The Colossal Course is for 10 years olds and older. Eight inflatables challenge the participants throughout the 2.5-mile path. For the little ones ages nine and younger, the Mini Course is .5 miles with four inflatables.

Air It Up is untimed and split into 12 waves. The waves are every half-hour beginning at 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. when the final wave is released.

Every participant will receive a T-shirt, medal and access to additional fun, including music, face painting, photos and more inflatables. Individual registration is $40 for the Colossal Course and $15 for the Mini Course by Thursday at www.airituprun.com, or $45 and $18 at on Sunday.

Air It Up provides an opportunity to spend at least a couple hours out of the house. Hopefully you won’t need to time it, though, because you, too, will be busy diving and sliding through the inflatables with your whole family.
