Here are the Sunflower League football rankings after Week 3, including league record, overall record, last week’s result, this week’s opponent and a comment.
1. Shawnee Mission East (2-0, 2-1)
Lost to Rockhurst, 26-20; Friday at Olathe North

The Lancers turned the ball over six times and recorded their first loss of the season, but still stayed close with Rockhurst.
2. Shawnee Mission West (2-0, 2-1)
Lost to Blue Springs, 35-21; Friday at Lawrence
West took a seven-point lead into halftime last week, but was shut out in the second half, suffering its first loss of the season.
3. Lawrence (2-0, 2-1)
Lost to Lee’s Summit West, 28-7; Friday vs. Shawnee Mission West
After averaging 51 points per game in the first two weeks of the season, Lawrence took a drastic step back, only managing one touchdown against Lee’s Summit West.
4. Shawnee Mission North (1-1, 2-1)
Defeated Lansing, 28-7; Thursday vs. Olathe Northwest
The only Sunflower team to not play across the state line in Week 3, Shawnee Mission North was also the only team to record a win.
5. Olathe East (1-0, 1-2)
Lost to Liberty, 21-14; Friday vs. Olathe South
Olathe East’s run game powered its offense last week, with touchdowns from Jack Mason and Will Scofield. But East still fell to a losing record.
6. Lawrence Free State (1-1, 1-2)
Lost to Park Hill, 34-21; Friday at Shawnee Mission Northwest
This week will be the third straight road game for a struggling Firebirds team.
7. Olathe North (1-0, 1-2)
Lost to Blue Springs South, 34-7; Friday vs. Shawnee Mission East
After two losses by 20 points or more in the first three weeks, Olathe North doesn’t have a much easier road ahead, with Shawnee Mission East next on the schedule.
8. Olathe Northwest (0-1, 0-3)
Lost to Lee’s Summit North, 21-16; Thursday at Shawnee Mission North
Olathe Northwest has now lost in double-overtime, overtime and by an opponent’s crunch-time goal-line stand.
9. Olathe South (0-2, 0-3)
Lost to Lee’s Summit, 42-24; Friday at Olathe East
South’s two losses have only been by a combined 13 points. But the team is allowing 41.7 points per game this season.
10. Leavenworth (0-2, 0-3)
Lost to North Kansas City, 27-18; Friday vs. Shawnee Mission South
Anthony Gould has nearly 700 all-purpose yards this season, but his team still hasn’t recorded its first win of the year.
11. Shawnee Mission South (0-2, 0-3)
Lost to Winnetonka, 21-14; Friday at Leavenworth
Not much went right for South last week: The team fumbled, had a punt blocked, gave up a safety and allowed an interception return for a touchdown.
12. Shawnee Mission Northwest (0-2, 0-3)
Lost to Grandview, 50-14; Friday vs. Lawrence Free State
Xavier Perry ran for his fifth touchdown of the year last week, but Shawnee Mission Northwest still can’t notch a win.
1. De Soto (1-1, 2-1)
Lost to Louisburg, 31-17; Friday at Paola
Bryce Mohl had 250 total yards of offense for De Soto, but they couldn’t get past a still-perfect Louisburg team.
2. Spring Hill (1-0, 1-2)
Beat Paola, 18-12; Friday at Baldwin
After two straight losses to start the season, Spring Hill took down league rival Paola in overtime.
3. Maranatha/Immaculata (0-3, 0-3)
Lost to McLouth, 36-6; Friday at Horton
Micah Webb had a 65-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage last week, but Maranatha/Immaculata couldn’t translate that into its first win of the season.
