The Harrisonville boys soccer team won the Oak Park Invitational on Sept. 30 with a 1-0 victory against host Oak Park.
The Wildcats also beat St. Pius X 4-0 and Kearney 6-0 to reach the final. It was the team’s second championship of the season.
Harrisonville (16-1), which also won the Smithville Invitational last month, has won 16 straight games after dropping its season-opener at Sedalia Smith-Cotton.
Chicks golfer qualifies for state
Madison Roach of Pleasant Hill qualified for the girls’ Class 1 state golf tournament with a nine-place finish during sectional tournament play Oct. 2 at Mozingo Lake Golf Course in Maryville.
Roach, a senior, shot a 99 and tied for ninth. The top two teams and top 12 individuals not on those teams advance to the state tournament Oct. 9 and Oct. 10 at Columbia Country Club.
Vera Bohning of St. Michael the Archangel finished tied for sixth with a 92 and also qualified along with Alyssa Pemberton of Summit Christian Academy, who shot a 105 and tied for 18th.
Ray-Pec tennis wins district
Raymore-Peculiar took first place in both singles and doubles in the Class 2, District 12 girls’ tennis tournament in Joplin, Mo.
Erica Cornell placed first in singles for the Panthers, beating Ashley Butler of Joplin 6-1,1-6, 6-3 in the final.
Alicia Atkinson placed third in singles.
Ray-Pec’s doubles team of Patricia and Josephine Moore also won a title with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Kierra Lee and Mariah Copeland of Carthage in the final.
With the tourney victories, Cornell and the Panthers’ doubles team advanced to the Class 2 sectional tournament.
Ray-Pec also won the district team tournament with a 5-1 victory against Joplin in the final.
Ray-Pec (7-7) will host Jefferson City on Oct. 7 in a Class 2 sectional at Ray-Pec. The winner will play in the Ozark/Springfield Central winner in the state quarterfinals later in the day for a spot in the Class 2 state team tournament, which begins Oct. 12 in Springfield, Mo.
