With a grant from TEAM Science, several elementary school teachers from the Belton district participated in science-related learning experiences this summer.
TEAM Science is a consortium of science professionals and educators including, but not limited to, the Belton School District, Rockhurst University, other elementary schools, the Ozark Underground Laboratory (OUL) and Science Pioneers.
Many of the teachers went to Protem, Mo., for an overnight cave trip at the Ozark Underground Laboratory. They included Cathy Cisetti, Andy Tapia, and Laura Harmon from Gladden Elementary; Sarah Lattimer, Lauren Harmon and Melissa Mizell from Kentucky Trail Elementary; Carin Timmins, Maddie Steffen and Mary MacInnis from Scott Elementary; and Mike Cummins, Anthony DeSantis and Betty Ruckman from Hillcrest.
The program focuses on improving student achievement in science by enriching teachers’ knowledge and skills.
