The Country Club Plaza just got a little sweeter.
South Florida candy retailer It’sugar is stocking its new Plaza shop with a variety of goodies — lollipops, chocolates, gummy bears, mints and more. The shops also sell candy-inspired fashion apparel, including themed T-shirts — Hello Kitty, Marilyn Monroe and Marvel Super Heroes — along with accessories and novelty gifts.
Items include 1.5-pound boxes of Hot Tamales, giant Tootsie Pops, bacon-flavored lip balm and bacon-flavored mints, Duck Dynasty pillows and stuffed plush ducks, small tubs of cotton candy, Batman shot glasses, and a variety of Pez candy dispensers.
The 1,117-square-foot Plaza shop is at 445 W. 47th St.White Horse Pub
Toby Corder wanted to open a tavern in Kansas City that would be reminiscent of the ones he hung out in in his native London in the 1980s.
His new White Horse Pub, at 10221 N. Oak Trafficway, offers such starters as Scotch Eggs, Coronation Chicken (chunks of white meat chicken tossed in a mild curry dressing and garnished with cranberries, celery, and candied pecans), and seasoned fries with a variety of toppings, including chili or brown gravy.
Also on the menu: soups, salads with housemade dressings, hand-pressed burgers, and entrees like fish and chips, bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, fish pie, and The Full Monty (called a proper British breakfast with two eggs, bangers, British bacon, sauteed mushrooms, baked beans, grilled seasoned tomato and toast — a meal that is served all day). White House Pub also has classic United Kingdom condiments.
Corder promises at least one of his five TVs will be tuned to a soccer game. The walls feature photos and other memorabilia of his favorite United Kingdom celebrities — Monty Python, The Beatles, Queen, David Bowie, Rod Stewart, and The Who. Corder’s wife, Mary Pat Corder, created some colorful stained glass pieces featuring flags from the British Isles. And a lifesize and lifelike statue of a British Royal Guard greets customers as they come in the door.Quick bites
